Android : iOS is 2 : 1 said Nielsen

Behind Android was Apple's iOS with a 28% slice of the smartphone pie. 56% of those buying a new smartphone from June through August selected an Android flavored model. 28% of those new smartphone buyers purchased the Apple iPhone while the BlackBerry OS and the "others" category accounted for 9% and 6% of new smartphone purchases during the three month period, respectively.

Even though the Apple has a retention rate of 89%, the recent reports show that the the people choosing Android are twice the people choosing iOS.

Nielson reports that Android continues to dominate the US market and 43% smartphone users use Android as compared to 28% iOS users.
